A total of 1,891 candidates have submitted their nomination forms today, marking the conclusion of the nomination process for the first phase of upazila elections in 150 upazilas scheduled to be held on May 8.

Among the candidates, 696 have filed nomination forms for the chairman's post, 724 for vice chairman, and 471 for the position of woman vice chairman.

Ashok Kumar Devnath, additional secretary of the Election Commission (EC), stated that candidates were exclusively allowed to submit nomination papers online this year, with today being the final day for the submission.

The next steps in the electoral process include the scrutiny of nomination papers on April 17, followed by a window for appeals against the decisions of returning officers from April 18 to April 20. The resolution of appeals is slated for April 21, with the deadline for withdrawal of candidatures set for April 22. Finally, symbols will be distributed to candidates on April 23.
