Amid the prevailing heatwave, Health Minister Dr. Samanta Lal Sen has advised elderly individuals and children to minimize outdoor activities unless absolutely necessary due to the intense heat.

Speaking at the inauguration of the nursing college building of the Centre for Rehabilitation of the Paralyzed (CRP) in Savar, Dr. Sen emphasized the importance of adhering to specific guidelines issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) to combat the heatwave. He highlighted the need for immediate action, including the closure of schools, to protect vulnerable groups from the heat.

Addressing concerns about healthcare accessibility, Dr. Sen stressed the importance of enhancing facilities at health complexes and community clinics, particularly in rural areas. He also assured that measures would be taken to investigate and address incidents such as the recent fire at Shishu Hospital.

In response to the heatwave, the government has announced the closure of all primary, secondary schools, colleges, and madrassas from April 21 to April 27. Additionally, daily assemblies at primary schools have been suspended until further notice.

Chuadanga district recorded the highest temperature in the country, reaching 41.3°C on Friday, marking the fourth consecutive day of recording the highest temperature nationwide. The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has issued a 72-hour heat alert across the country, with intermittent rains and thundershowers expected in some areas. This situation mirrors the heatwave experienced in June 2023, which also led to the closure of educational institutions.
