During the 80th Session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) in Bangkok, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina emphasized the importance of rejecting all forms of aggression and violence, advocating for dialogue as a means to resolve disputes and prevent wars.

She asserted, "We must speak out against all forms of aggression and atrocities, and say 'no' to wars," underscoring Bangladesh's support for the UN Secretary General's 'New Agenda for Peace.'

Highlighting the significance of lasting peace and security for sustainable development, Prime Minister Hasina stressed the necessity of settling regional disputes through dialogue while upholding national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Addressing the Rohingya crisis originating from Myanmar, she urged the Asia-Pacific region, particularly ASEAN, to intensify efforts towards its resolution, emphasizing that regional connectivity and prosperity hinge upon addressing this humanitarian crisis.

Reflecting on Bangladesh's efforts in providing temporary shelter to Rohingya refugees and calling attention to the delay in their repatriation amid ongoing conflicts in Myanmar, she urged proactive engagement from the Asia-Pacific region, especially ASEAN, to address the volatile situation in Myanmar and ensure the safe return of Rohingya refugees with dignity.

Prime Minister Hasina underscored the importance of unity in tackling common challenges such as poverty, hunger, climate crisis, biodiversity loss, and transboundary pollution in the Asia-Pacific region. She highlighted Bangladesh's progress in poverty reduction, food security, climate adaptation, and disaster risk reduction, underscoring the country's commitment to a sustainable, low-carbon economic growth pathway.

Additionally, she emphasized the need for increased international cooperation, financing, and technology transfer to support climate-vulnerable countries in their climate resilience efforts.

Regarding regional trade and connectivity, Prime Minister Hasina highlighted Bangladesh's role in providing critical links to the Trans-Asian Highway and Railway networks, as well as access to the Bay of Bengal for landlocked neighboring countries. She expressed readiness to collaborate with regional partners to foster mutual understanding and cooperation.

Prime Minister Hasina's address at the UNESCAP meeting reaffirms Bangladesh's commitment to promoting peace, stability, and sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region through dialogue, cooperation, and inclusive partnerships.
