The West Zone of Bangladesh Railway is set to launch a 'special mango train' on the Chapainawabganj-Dhaka route via Rajshahi from June 10 for the fifth consecutive time.

Departing from Rohanpur railway station at 4 pm, the train will reach Dhaka at 2.15 am with stoppages at 14 stations via Padma Bridge, offering safe and cost-effective transportation of mangoes.

The train, comprising six luggage vans, will have the capacity to carry 172.98 tonnes of mangoes. The cost of transporting mangoes to Dhaka from Rajshahi will be Taka 1.43 per kilogram, and Taka 1.48 from Chapainawabganj to Dhaka.

At a seminar titled "Mango transportation to different districts from Rajshahi division through railway," Railway Minister Zillul Hakim emphasized the importance of utilizing railway transportation for mangoes due to its affordability and safety.

The seminar discussed ways to address existing challenges related to mango transportation through railways, with stakeholders highlighting the need for solutions to make the venture more successful.

Minister Zillul Hakim assured that all problems regarding mango transportation by railway will be resolved, and steps are being taken to sign memorandums of understanding with courier services to facilitate mango transportation.
