The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has apprehended the mastermind behind the murder of Jhenaidah-4 Member of Parliament (MP) Anwarul Azim Anar, according to Foreign Affairs Minister Hasan Mahmud on 22 May.

"Kolkata police have also arrested two more individuals in connection with the case," Mahmud stated while speaking to reporters after a seminar at Dhaka University.

"This issue is not a bilateral matter between the two states. The home minister confirmed it was a premeditated murder. We are receiving updates through the Bangladesh High Commission in Kolkata," Hasan added.

In the early hours today, Kolkata police recovered the dismembered body of MP Anwarul Azim Anar, eight days after he went missing in India.

Kolkata police have determined the murder was planned.

"His body was dismembered, and some parts were found in a flat in Sanjeeva Garden, Kolkata's New Town," said a deputy police commissioner of Kolkata police.

Sources indicate the flat belongs to an excise duty official.

The Special Task Force of India is handling the case, with central investigation branch officials and Barrakpur detective branch officers present at the crime scene.

Azim disappeared a day after traveling to India for medical treatment on 12 May, as reported by his family members.

On 19 May, his daughter Mumtarin Ferdous Doreen told reporters during a press briefing that she had sought assistance from the DB police to locate her father.

DB police had been collaborating with Indian police to locate MP Azim.

According to a previous statement by DB chief Harun, MP Azim entered India through the Darshana-Gede border on 12 May.

He stayed at the home of a man named Gopal. The next day, he left the house after breakfast and was expected to return by evening but did not, Harun added.
