Eleven pairs of special trains will be run by Bangladesh Railways (BR) for the benefit of Operating 11 sets of special trains to Bishwa Ijtema: minister
devotees, who make up the second-largest Muslim gathering after the Hajj.
At a view-exchange meeting with journalists today at Rail Bhaban here, Railways Minister Md Zillul Hakim declared, "Bangladesh Railways will launch 11 pairs of special trains on the occasion of Bishwa Ijtema."
According to the minister, February 2, 3, and 4 will be the dates of the first phase of Biswa Ijtema, and February 9, 10, and 11 would be the dates of the second phase.
Two trains, designated as "Jumma Special-2," are scheduled to operate on the Dhaka-Tongi-Dhaka line on February 2 and February 9.
Two more 'Special-1' trains are scheduled to operate on the Jamalpur-Tongi line on February 3 and 10.
Special trains will operate on several lines between February 4 and 19, in honor of Akheri Munajat.
In addition, there will be one special train on the Tongi-Tangail-Tongi line, one pair on the Tongi-Mymensingh-Tongi route, and five pairs of special trains on the Dhaka-Tongi-Dhaka route. On the Ishwardi-Tongi-Ishwardi route, two pairs of special trains will operate in the interim.
The minister further announced that all intercity, postal, and commuter trains heading towards Dhaka will halt for three minutes at Tongi station between February 4 and February 11 of that year.
All intercity, mail, and commuter trains—aside from Suborna, Sonar Bangla, Cox's Bazar, and Parjatak Express—will stop for three minutes at Tongi station on February 4 and February 11.
However, the minister stated that extra coaches will be added to every Intercity Mail, Express, and Local trains based on coach availability and passenger demand.
