Indra Mani Pandey, Secretary General of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC), expressed optimism about the forum's future, noting significant outcomes anticipated from the upcoming 6th summit. Speaking at a meeting with the Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (DCAB), Pandey highlighted the commitment of all member nations to ensure BIMSTEC's success.
BIMSTEC, comprising seven South and Southeast Asian nations, represents 1.73 billion people with a combined GDP of $5.2 trillion. The upcoming summit in Bangkok, Thailand, is expected to adopt the Bangkok Vision-2030, a document setting the future direction for the organization.
Pandey emphasized the importance of the BIMSTEC Charter, which marks a new era of cooperation in the region. Thailand, currently chairing BIMSTEC, prioritizes sustainable development and enhancing the collective capabilities of all member nations. Bangladesh is set to assume the chairmanship in the next summit.
