The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has conducted raids in Dhaka and Gopalganj over allegations of irregularities in the construction of the Bangladesh Association for the Aged and Institute of Geriatric Medicine (BAAIGM) and "Bir Nibash", the residence for freedom fighters.
These raids were carried out by the ACC head office and its Gopalganj branch on Monday.
ACC Deputy Director and Public Relations Officer Md Aktarul Islam said that the ACC received complaints of various irregularities, including the misuse of vehicles belonging to BAAIGM for personal purposes and the illegal promotion of officers and employees.
Following these complaints, the ACC launched an operation from its head office.
During the operation, ACC team members examined the logbooks of three vehicles, including ambulances, and questioned the respective drivers.
They also collected documents related to the complaints about promotions. A detailed report will be submitted to the commission after reviewing the collected records for further action.
Aktarul Islam added that the ACC received a complaint about dishonest contractors using low-quality construction materials in building the residence for freedom fighters (Bir Nibash) in Gopalganj Sadar upazila.
In response, another enforcement operation was conducted by the Gopalganj district office of the ACC.
The ongoing construction work of four Bir Nibash in Urfi Union of Gopalganj Sadar upazila was inspected on-site. The inspection revealed the use of substandard materials in the buildings.
For thorough verification, copies and information of related project expenses, circulars, and other records have been collected.
