The prime minister of Vietnam, Pham Minh Chinh, has extended an invitation to Sheikh Hasina, the prime minister of Bangladesh, to visit Hanoi on an official bilateral basis.

According to a news statement from the foreign ministry, Dr. Hasna Mahmud, the foreign minister, received the formal invitation from his Vietnamese counterpart Bui Thanh Son during a bilateral meeting on Friday in Brussels, which was conducted in conjunction with the 3rd Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum.

The five-year-old cordial relations between Bangladesh and Vietnam were further strengthened when the Vietnamese foreign minister extended an invitation to Hasan Mahmud to visit Hanoi during the meeting.

The two foreign ministers discussed a range of topics about bilateral and shared interests.

They also talked on how to strengthen bilateral trade and investment cooperation.

Noting that the best way to resolve the Rohingya situation is to return the forcibly displaced people to Rakhine, Hasan Mahmud asked Vietnam to put pressure on Myanmar in this respect.

Josep Borrell, Vice President of the European Commission and High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, presided over the meeting.

The EU and its Member States with nations ranging from the Pacific islands in the east to the east coast of Africa met at the EU Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum.

On Sunday night, the foreign minister will be back in Dhaka.
