Home Affairs Adviser Brigadier General (retd) M Sakhawat Hussain has issued a stern warning to those in possession of weapons looted from the police and RAB, urging them to return the arms to police stations by 19 August.
"Anyone found with these weapons after the deadline will face strict legal action," the adviser stated during his visit to the Combined Military Hospital to meet injured Ansar members earlier today (12 August).
When questioned about the so-called "armed wing" of the Awami League, Sakhawat Hussain expressed his confusion, saying, "I do not recognize any such league. How did weapons intended for law enforcement end up in civilian hands? I watched a video where a civilian killed an Ansar member and took his rifle, which has yet to be returned."
He further cautioned that failing to return these weapons would result in two serious charges: possession of illegal weapons and possession of government-prohibited weapons.
The adviser stressed the urgency of the situation, particularly noting the involvement of young people in these incidents. "I advise you to return these rifles by next Monday (19 August). After that, we will begin a crackdown," he warned.
Sakhawat Hussain also reminded the public that these weapons are strictly reserved for law enforcement agencies and should not be in civilian hands.
Additionally, he suggested that the Awami League should consider reorganizing its political structure.
The adviser is also expected to recommend a two-day holiday for Durga Puja.
