On Sunday night, during the celebration of English Happy New Year and 31st Night (December 31), fireworks and lanterns went up, resulting in at least three fire accidents in the districts of Jamalpur and the capital, Dhaka.
The control room of the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) Directorate media cell received reports of fire incidents at three locations nationwide as a result of fireworks and lanterns flying during the celebrations of English Happy New Year and Thirty Fast Night, according to sources at the FSCD Directorate media cell.
Three fire incidents happened in Dhaka: one in Dhanmondi, the capital city; one in Jinzira, Keraniganj, on the outskirts of the city; and one in Shahid Haroon Road, Jamalpur Sadar. One dwelling and two stores caught fire. However, according to the FSCD media cell, no casualties were reported in those situations.
Even though every fire station under the FSCD directorate was prepared across the nation, thirty firefighters and six firefighter units worked to put out the three fire occurrences.
It should be mentioned that the FSCD had previously urged the countrymen to refrain from flying lanterns and firecrackers over the entire nation.
