Dhaka, August 29 — The Chief Adviser of the interim government, Professor Muhammad Yunus, has appointed Mahfuz Alam as the coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement's liaison committee. The appointment was confirmed through a notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Wednesday.

Mahfuz Alam, a student of the 2015-16 academic year from the Law Department of Dhaka University, has been appointed as Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser on a contractual basis. His appointment comes with the condition that he sever all working relationships with other institutions and organizations. Mahfuz Alam will serve in the rank of Secretary, receiving a salary and associated benefits as per government norms.

The Ministry's notification specifies that Mahfuz Alam's appointment will be effective for the duration of the Chief Adviser's tenure, starting from the date he assumes office, or until the Chief Adviser decides otherwise.

This appointment follows the recent hiring of retired Lieutenant General Abdul Hafeez on August 24 as Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser. General Hafeez has been entrusted with providing necessary assistance on matters related to defense and national integration development.

The interim government led by Nobel laureate economist Dr. Muhammad Yunus was formed after the collapse of the Awami League government on August 8. The new administration includes two coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement, Nahid Islam and Asif Mahmud, who have been appointed as advisers.

The interim government's formation and appointments reflect a focus on inclusivity and a commitment to addressing pressing social issues, such as discrimination and inequality, in collaboration with key stakeholders from various sectors.
