Cumilla, Aug 31 (V7N) - Brigadier General (retd) M Sakhawat Hossain stated on Saturday that advance notice from neighboring countries about water releases could have reduced the impact of the devastating floods in Bangladesh. Speaking after inspecting a flood relief medical camp in Cumilla, Hossain criticized the lack of warning and sudden water releases, which exacerbated the flooding.
“We were caught off guard by this flood, which is unusual for this time of year. Without warnings from our neighbors, the situation worsened,” he said.
The adviser assured that the government is actively working on rehabilitating flood victims despite delays due to the current lack of a political government, which has hindered contractor appointments.
During a separate visit to a medical camp in Sreepur's Chauddagram, Hossain stressed the urgency of addressing waterborne diseases and ensuring adequate medical supplies in affected areas.
