FRANKFURT, Oct 6 V7N- Volkswagen CEO Oliver Blume has called for a reconsideration of the European Union's proposed tariffs on China-made electric vehicles (EVs), suggesting that the focus should shift from punitive measures to rewarding investments in Europe. In an interview with *Bild am Sonntag*, Blume stated that companies that invest in Europe, create jobs, and collaborate with local businesses should receive tariff benefits.

This comes amid growing tensions between the EU and China over the planned imposition of tariffs of up to 45% on Chinese-made EVs, which are intended to counter what the EU considers unfair Chinese subsidies. These duties, set to be enforced for five years starting next month, could cost automakers billions and create a significant financial burden for car imports into the bloc.

Despite Germany and its automotive industry voicing opposition to these tariffs, the European Commission, which leads the bloc's trade policy, plans to move forward with the measures while continuing discussions with Beijing. Blume also expressed concern over potential retaliatory tariffs from China, which could further damage European carmakers' global operations. The trade dispute represents one of the most significant confrontations between Europe and China in a decade.
