In a bid to alleviate soaring food prices, a shipment of 200 tons of potatoes arrived at Benapole port from India, transported via Petrapole port in eight trucks on Thursday.

Port Director Rezaul Karim verified the potato import, highlighting the ongoing efforts to stabilize food prices.

Notably, this recent arrival follows a previous import on December 2, where 74 tons of potatoes were brought in via three trucks.

Integrated Food and Beverage serves as the importer, while PepsiCo India Holdings acts as the exporter for this consignment, as confirmed by port authorities.

The clearance process for the potatoes is underway, facilitated by Transmarine C&F Agent, which has submitted the requisite documentation for customs clearance.

Masum Billah, a representative from the C&F agent, disclosed that the import cost per metric ton of potatoes amounts to $194. He further assured that the consignment will be cleared by the upcoming Sunday.

Director Rezaul Karim noted that this marks the second potato consignment imported through Benapole Port, emphasizing the port's commitment to expediting clearance procedures to assist importers efficiently.
