Chittagong, Oct 04 (V7N) – The sacked and OSD-appointed officers and employees of Islami Bank have lifted their blockade from the Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Fauzdarhat, Chittagong, but issued a 24-hour ultimatum for their six-point demands to be met.
The protesters left the highway around 1 pm on Saturday, allowing traffic to gradually return to normal. Earlier, their demonstration had caused a 3-kilometer traffic jam, affecting commuters on both sides of the highway.
The employees said that 5,500 officers and staff members from Chittagong were sacked or appointed as OSD after boycotting the Islami Bank Special Competency Assessment exam. Their six-point demands include immediate reinstatement to their positions.
The protest began around 11:30 am, with over 100 employees and their family members staging the blockade. They warned that further action would follow if their demands are not addressed within 24 hours.
