In April, Bangladesh experienced a slight easing in the general point-to-point inflation rate, which decreased to 9.74 percent compared to the previous month. However, there was a slight increase in food inflation during the same period.
The Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) released its monthly consumer price index data, indicating that the general point-to-point inflation rate was 9.81 percent in March and 9.67 percent in February of the same year.
Specifically, the point-to-point food inflation rate rose to 10.22 percent in April 2024, up from 9.87 percent in March.
Conversely, non-food inflation saw a slight decline to 9.34 percent in April, down from 9.64 percent in March.
Breaking down the data further, it was observed that in April, the general inflation rate in urban areas decreased to 9.46 percent, whereas it stood at 9.92 percent in rural areas.
In rural regions, food inflation increased to 10.25 percent in April, compared to 9.86 percent in March. Non-food inflation also rose slightly to 9.60 percent from 9.41 percent during the same period.
Similarly, in urban areas, food inflation rose to 10.19 percent in April, up from 9.98 percent in March. However, the non-food inflation rate experienced a marginal decrease to 9.01 percent in April, compared to 9.71 percent in March.
The national wage index rate demonstrated a 7.85 percent growth in April, reaching 118.21 points, compared to a growth of 7.80 percent with 118.00 points in March.
