Khulna, July 30 (V7N) — Fish export income from Khulna, a major fish production district, has seen a significant decline of Tk 679 crore in the fiscal year 2023-24. The district exported fish and fish products worth Tk 2,144 crore, compared to Tk 2,823 crore in FY 2022-23.
In FY 2023-24, Khulna exported around 16,000 metric tons of shrimp, generating Tk 1,744 crore, and 25,000 metric tons of other fish, bringing in over Tk 400 crore.
Fisheries Officer Jaydev Pal highlighted that Khulna's fish production includes varieties such as hilsa, tilapia, crab, bagda, and lobster. The district produces 125,000 metric tons of fish annually, against a local demand of 57,000 metric tons, leaving a surplus of over 68 metric tons.
The downturn in export revenue reflects a broader trend impacting the fisheries sector.
