Dhaka, Mar 30 (V7N) – As Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated in Saudi Arabia today, Bangladesh is set to mark the festival tomorrow (March 31). In preparation, thousands of people are leaving Dhaka today (March 30) to celebrate Eid with their families.

The mass exodus has led to overcrowding at key transportation hubs, including Sadarghat Launch Terminal and Kamalapur Railway Station.

Since morning, a huge crowd of passengers has been seen at Sadarghat Launch Terminal. With all cabins fully booked and decks packed, many passengers are even sleeping on the open deck to secure a spot on their journey home.

Passengers say they prefer launches over buses for long-distance travel, as it offers more comfort despite the congestion.

However, some travelers expressed frustration over delays, saying that many launches did not leave on time last night, causing inconvenience. Others complained about higher-than-usual fares, alleging that launch operators are taking advantage of the Eid rush.

A similar scenario unfolded at Kamalapur Railway Station, where a huge crowd of homebound passengers gathered throughout the day.

Despite the heavy rush, passengers reported a smooth journey this year, with no significant schedule disruptions. Trains are leaving on time, unlike in previous years when delays were a common issue.

Security has also been tightened at the station, with multiple layers of checks before passengers can board. However, due to limited space inside the train compartments, many passengers have resorted to traveling on the train roof.

Meanwhile, there have been complaints about commuter train ticket counters being closed early, allegedly to charge higher unofficial fares.

With the biggest Muslim festival just a day away, the rush to leave Dhaka is expected to intensify further tonight as thousands more continue their journey home.
