In a continued show of solidarity with victims of acid violence, Acteus Group has renewed its support for the Acid Survivors Foundation (ASF), providing a much-needed financial boost to the organization as it faces mounting funding constraints.
The donation reaffirms Acteus’s commitment to empowering survivors like Jasmin, whose life was irreversibly altered in 2016 after a brutal acid attack by her husband following repeated dowry demands. Despite filing a case under the Acid Offence Control Act 2012, which criminalizes such violence, Jasmin's assailant has remained at large for eight years.

“After the attack, my life completely changed. No one wants to give me a job because of the conditions on my face,” Jasmin told Dhaka Tribune. ASF has been instrumental in her recovery, providing surgeries, medication, and psychotherapy.

Since its establishment in 1999, ASF has supported thousands of acid attack survivors across Bangladesh. The organization offers not only medical aid but also psychological counseling and skill development programs to help survivors reintegrate into society.

“Employers must be sensitized before and during employment of acid survivors,” said ASF Executive Director Samia Ahmed. “We’re working closely with both survivors and employers to ensure a comfortable workplace environment.”

ASF also provides legal support, but Samia noted that dwindling funds are now a critical concern. The renewed donation from Acteus Group comes at a crucial time.

“We genuinely want to help the survivors,” said Alex Yeong, Managing Director of Acteus. “They are incredibly strong-minded and do not give up. Supporting them reflects our own values.”

This marks yet another chapter in Acteus Group’s corporate social program. Since entering the Bangladeshi market in 2015, Acteus Group has regularly supported various organizations for humanitarian purposes, through its corporate social program “Acteus Smiles” alongside its business ventures in industrial equipment.

“We are dedicated to give back to the community,” Yeong affirmed. “We believe in standing beside these resilient individuals.”

As ASF continues its mission under financial strain, partnerships like that with Acteus remain vital to sustaining the life-saving support they provide to acid attack survivors across the country.
