Dhaka, Nov 18 (V7N) – The situation along Mirpur Road near Dhanmondi 32 in Dhaka returned to normal after day-long clashes on Monday. Traffic resumed, though by 10:45 p.m., police closed the road near the residence of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with barricades. Security forces, including army personnel, RAB, and BGB, remained deployed in large numbers in the area.

During the day, protesters attempted to bring two excavators onto the Dhanmondi 32 road, but law enforcement prevented the move. Officers used batons and sound grenades to disperse crowds after stones were thrown at them, causing temporary chaos. Protesters repeatedly tried to return to the road in two groups around 1:30 p.m., but were pushed back by security forces.

Small fragments of bricks were scattered across the road, and traffic along the New Market–Mirpur route was temporarily halted due to the unrest. Dhaka Metropolitan Police Dhanmondi Additional Deputy Commissioner Zisanul Haque told Voice7 News that the protesters had been fully dispersed and the situation was under control, though police would maintain vigilance overnight.

The unrest followed the announcement of a verdict in a war crimes case against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, relating to crimes during the July uprising. The heavy deployment of security forces and repeated clashes highlighted the heightened tensions in the area throughout the day.
