Dhaka, Dec 04 (V7N) – Officers and employees of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) staged a human chain and sit-in on Thursday in front of the MRT Line-6 depot head office in Uttara Diabari, demanding the formulation of modern, government-compliant, and realistic service rules.

Participants in the demonstration — directly recruited officers and employees from grades 9 to 20 — alleged that even after 12 years of the company’s establishment, the administration has yet to introduce proper service rules. They said this prolonged delay has left staff facing persistent job insecurity.

According to demonstrators, when they raised the same demand about a year ago, the company’s Director General assured them that service rules would be finalized within 30 days. However, the promise remains unfulfilled.

The protesters further claimed that despite the Ministry’s instruction to draft the service rules within 45 days of August 5, 2024, the DMTCL administration did not comply for reasons unknown.

Speakers at the human chain urged authorities to immediately formulate and implement the long-pending service rules to ensure transparency, fairness, and job security for all employees.
