Dhaka, Dec 14 (V7N) –Mid-December has brought a significant chill across the country, with temperatures steadily dropping. On Saturday, temperatures in seven districts were recorded at or below 10°C, with a mild cold wave sweeping through four of them.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has indicated that this cold wave may expand to nearby regions.
The lowest temperature in the country on Saturday was recorded in Chuadanga at 8.7°C. Other notable temperatures were Tetulia at 9.2°C, Rajshahi at 9.7°C, Jessore at 10°C, Ishwardi at 10.2°C, Badalgachhi at 10.3°C, and Gopalganj at 10.8°C.
Typically, a mild cold wave is classified when temperatures range between 8.1°C and 10°C. Currently, a mild cold wave is affecting the districts of Panchagarh, Rajshahi, Jessore, and Chuadanga, and it is expected to persist.
Meteorologist Shahnaz Sultana said: "A cold wave is affecting several regions today. While temperatures may not drop significantly further, the cold wave could spread to additional areas."
According to the Meteorological Department, a subcontinental high-pressure ridge extends to West Bengal and its adjoining areas, while a seasonal low-pressure zone lies over the southern Bay of Bengal, with an extension stretching to the northern Bay of Bengal.
The BMD also forecasts that the weather across the country will remain dry with partly cloudy skies.
Nighttime temperatures may decrease slightly, while daytime temperatures may rise slightly. Moderate to dense fog is likely to form in some areas from midnight until noon.
