Jhalokathi, Dec 30, (V7N) - The Environment Department has destroyed an unauthorized brick kiln that had been illegally set up next to a school in Nalkathi, Jhalokathi. The operation was carried out on Sunday (December 29) afternoon in the village of Sorai, under the Kulkathi Union, where raw bricks were destroyed and the kiln was demolished.
 
The operation was led by the Executive Magistrate of the Monitoring and Enforcement Branch of the Environment Department, Faizunnesa Akter. Also present at the time was Assistant Director of Jhalokathi District's Environment Department, Anjuman Nessa.
 
According to reports, the brick kiln had been built illegally on agricultural land next to the Sorai Government Primary School without any authorization. The school authorities and local residents had filed complaints with the Environment Department. After the complaints, a team from the department arrived and demolished the kiln using a backhoe, while fire service personnel doused the remaining fires with water.
 
Assistant Director Anjuman Nessa stated that upon receiving the complaints, they launched the operation. She added that although the kiln had been previously shut down, it had been reactivated without permission. The owner of the kiln could not be found during the operation, and a notice would be sent for the closure of the kiln. The Environment Department also emphasized that their efforts to crack down on such illegal operations would continue.
