Dhaka, January 16, (V7N )– A comprehensive plan to restore 19 canals in Dhaka has been finalized, Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan announced on Wednesday. The initiative, which includes a detailed work plan and budget, is set to be presented by the end of January.
The announcement came during a progress review meeting on the 'Natural Capital Mapping' project held at the Secretariat.

Four Rivers Around Dhaka
Encroachment: Largely addressed.

District deputy commissioners have submitted plans for restoring and depolluting one river each, accompanied by budgets.
A central committee will review these plans by February, enabling fund allocation and project commencement.
Discussions are ongoing with development partners for additional environmental initiatives.
Projects of this nature typically span 5–10 years, but an action plan will ensure consistent progress.
