Dhaka, May 30 (V7N) – Despite being a public holiday, residents of the capital faced severe disruption on Friday (May 30) due to continuous rainfall and persistent waterlogging across major areas of the city.
Although the intensity of rain subsided somewhat by Friday morning, stagnant water on several key roads continues to hamper movement. City Corporation teams are working to drain the water, but residents remain frustrated, citing poor drainage and infrastructure management.
In areas like Mohakhali DOHS, knee-deep water has accumulated at the entrance since Thursday night, with no visible sign of recession. The situation has led to car breakdowns and halted operations of CNG-powered three-wheelers, adding to the chaos.
Besides Mohakhali, waterlogging has also affected roads in Shantinagar, New Market, and Fakirapul, causing massive suffering for commuters and local residents.
Bike riders, in particular, are bearing the brunt of the crisis. Many report a sharp drop in income as navigating the flooded roads has become increasingly dangerous and inefficient.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department warned that rainfall will likely continue until Monday, raising concerns about worsening conditions. Clear skies are expected on Tuesday, offering a possible respite to the city’s weary residents.
As frustration mounts, citizens are urging city authorities to act swiftly to resolve the long-standing drainage issues that turn every downpour into a major urban disaster.
