Mongla, Nov 18 (V7N) – A coordination meeting on climate change, disaster risk reduction planning, child rights and child participation was held in Mongla, aiming to strengthen community preparedness and protect vulnerable children during natural disasters. The event took place on Monday afternoon at the Mithakhali Bazar field and was organized by the Community Development Centre’s (CODEC) Swapnajatra Project.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sharmin Akter Sumi attended the meeting as the chief guest. The session was chaired by CODEC Swapnajatra Project Field Organizer Md Motaleb Sheikh. Among the special guests were Shiria Begum Secondary Girls’ School head teacher Md Obaidul Islam, Mithakhali Union CPP team leader Md Monir Khan, ABS Secondary School assistant teacher Biswajit Kirtonia and environmental activist Nazmul Haque.

Speakers highlighted that children remain the most vulnerable during natural disasters, with their education being severely disrupted during cyclones, storms and tidal surges. They emphasized the need to design educational institutions to ensure children’s safety during emergencies and to minimize disruption to learning activities. They also urged the community to be more attentive to protecting the rights of deprived and marginalized children.

The event featured disaster-awareness exhibitions, traditional jarigan, dance, drama and performances by students involved in CODEC’s Swapnajatra Project.
