Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury emphasized Bangladesh's urgent need for resources to tackle the impacts of climate change, highlighting increased cooperation with the Asian Development Bank (ADB). In a meeting with ADB Vice President Fatima Yasmin and Country Director Edimon Ginting, Minister Saber disclosed Bangladesh's staggering $9 billion requirement for climate action, of which the government has allocated $3.5 billion for crucial sectors like infrastructure, disaster management, and education.

Acknowledging the private sector's hesitance to invest in adaptation efforts, Minister Saber stressed the importance of monetizing adaptation strategies and prioritizing locally led initiatives. He also underscored the necessity of addressing transboundary air pollution, a significant contributor to Bangladesh's air pollution.

Vice President Fatima Yasmin reiterated ADB's unwavering commitment to supporting Bangladesh's crucial initiatives, including the Delta Plan, Mujib Climate Prosperity Plan, and National Adaptation Plan. She affirmed ADB's strong partnership with Bangladesh and its dedication to implementing transformative projects with a heightened focus on climate change resilience.

Out of the total allocation of $9.8 billion, ADB has pledged $2 billion specifically for Bangladesh, highlighting its profound commitment to the nation's sustainable development goals.
