Feni, July 11 (V7N) — Continuous monsoon rainfall has triggered severe flooding across Feni’s Fulgazi and Parashuram upazilas, leaving residents in a state of extreme uncertainty and hardship. Despite a slight decrease in water levels in recent hours, new flooding has affected lower-lying areas of Sadar and Chagalnaiya upazilas.

According to local sources, embankment breaches at 21 locations along the Muhuri, Kahua, and Silonia rivers have resulted in the inundation of at least 109 villages across four upazilas.

The rising water forced thousands to evacuate. A total of 161 shelters have been opened, where local authorities are distributing dry food and other essentials to affected families.

Meanwhile, the Feni-Parashuram road remains impassable due to submerged sections, hampering rescue and relief efforts. Many areas in Fulgazi and Parashuram have also been without electricity for the past two days, compounding residents' suffering.

The Water Development Board has confirmed that river water levels began receding last evening due to reduced rainfall and lower upstream flow. As of now, the water in the Muhuri, Kahua, and Silonia rivers is flowing below the danger mark, but authorities remain on high alert due to the fragile condition of the breached embankments.

Local residents continue to demand a permanent solution to the recurring flood crisis, urging the proper implementation of the Tk 7,340 crore flood control project.
