The Fire Service and Civil Defence have initiated efforts to quell the fire that erupted in the Amurbunia area within the Chandpai range of the Sundarbans East Zone on Saturday afternoon. Joining the operation alongside the fire service are members of the Bangladesh Navy, Bangladesh Air Force, and Bangladesh Coast Guard, commencing their efforts at 9 am on Sunday.

Leading the charge is a 10-member firefighting team from the Navy's Mongla base, led by Lieutenant Commander Arafatul Arefin, who swiftly arrived at the scene early in the morning.

Mamun Ahmed, Deputy Director of Bagerhat Fire Service and Civil Defence, stated that five firefighting units are currently deployed at the site. Among them, three units from Mongla, Morelganj, and Sharankhola have commenced operations, while the remaining two units are on standby.

Earlier attempts by two units from Mongla and Morelganj fire services on Saturday evening were thwarted by the setting sun upon their arrival, preventing them from initiating firefighting efforts.

Mohammad Kaymuzzaman, Station Officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defence in Mongla, corroborated the delay caused by the 2km distance between the water source and the fire outbreak site, hindering immediate suppression efforts.

The fire originated in the Amarbunia area of the Chandpai range in the Sundarbans' eastern region under Bagerhat on Saturday afternoon.

Forest Department Officer (DFO) Nurul Karim announced the formation of an investigation committee to ascertain the fire's exact cause. However, details regarding the cause and the fire's extent were not immediately available.
