Due to the impact of Cyclone Remal, the Meteorological Department has issued a great danger signal number 10 in Mongla. As a result, the authorities have issued their own Alert ‘Four’ at Mongla Port. The loading and unloading of goods from foreign ships stationed at Mongla Port have been suspended. Additionally, to avoid accidents in the storm, six commercial ships in the port have been safely anchored.
 
Meanwhile, due to the influence of Cyclone Remal, rain started at around 12 PM on Sunday (May 26). Gusty winds are also blowing, causing people to rush to shelters.
 
Upazila Executive Officer Nishat Tamanna said that all necessary measures are being taken to bring coastal residents living near the Sundarbans and the Poshur River to shelters. Many have already been brought in. Adequate food provisions have been made for them. Efforts are ongoing to bring those who have not yet reached the shelters. Additionally, warning announcements continue to be made along the coast adjacent to the Sundarbans.
 
The residents of Chila Union in Mongla Upazila are at the highest risk from the cyclone. They live right next to the Sundarbans. Gazi Akbar Hossain, the chairman of this union, said, “Coastal residents are being brought to almost all of the 25 shelters in his union. We have arranged for khichuri and dry food for all 25 centers.”
 
Mongla Coast Guard Western Zone media officer Lieutenant Muntasir Ibn Mohsin reported that they have been on alert since Saturday (May 25). Awareness campaigns are being continuously conducted to make coastal residents aware at every moment. Since dawn on Sunday (May 26), their members have been stationed in the Poshur River and areas adjacent to the Sundarbans in Mongla. They are prepared to handle any situation.
