In Khulna, 85,000 people have taken refuge in cyclone shelters as Cyclone Remal brings gusty winds and drizzle to the coast. The number of evacuees continues to rise as the situation develops.
 
Following the issuance of the 10th disaster signal, residents from five upazilas have sought safety in shelters by noon today. The local community, along with Water Development Board officials, is working tirelessly to reinforce embankments against the cyclone's impact. Efforts include placing sand-filled geo bags in vulnerable areas of Dakop and Coir and constructing bamboo fences in highly erosion-prone zones.
 
Dakop Upazila Nirbahi Officer Joydev Chakraborty reported that after danger signal number 10 was announced, miking began to urge people to move to shelters. As of 1:30 PM, 19,000 people have taken refuge in 130 shelter centers across the upazila. At a government primary school shelter, our correspondent Chalan Masum observed villagers arriving steadily.
 
Khulna District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Abdul Karim confirmed that 85,000 individuals have taken shelter in upazila centers. Emergency aid, including dry food, has been distributed to Koira, Paikgacha, and Dakop upazilas, with each receiving one and a half lakh cash and 10 tons of rice. Additionally, Batiaghata and Dumuria upazilas have been allocated Tk 50,000 in cash. A control room is operational, and district and upazila administrations, along with volunteers, are on standby to manage the disaster response.
