Severe cyclonic storm "Remal" has moved northward and made landfall, now situated over Koyra, Khulna, and is expected to weaken into a cyclonic storm within the next 2-3 hours, according to the latest bulletin from the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
The storm, currently over Koyra, Khulna, is forecasted to continue moving northward while gradually weakening, bringing precipitation as it progresses, the BMD reported.
With maximum sustained winds around the center reaching 90 km/h and gusts up to 120 km/h, the maritime ports of Payra and Mongla have been instructed to maintain great danger signal number 10.
The coastal districts of Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Pirojpur, Jhalokathi, Barguna, Barishal, Bhola, Patuakhali, and their offshore islands and chars have also been placed under great danger signal number 10.
Maritime ports in Cox's Bazar and Chattogram have been advised to hoist great danger signal number 9, affecting the coastal districts of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Feni, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Chandpur, and their offshore islands and chars.
River ports in Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Pirojpur, Jhalokathi, Barguna, Barishal, Bhola, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Chandpur, Chattogram, and Cox's Bazar have been instructed to lower riverine danger signal number 3 and instead hoist riverine red danger signal number 4.
Due to the severe cyclone and steep pressure gradient, low-lying areas in the coastal districts of Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Pirojpur, Jhalokathi, Barguna, Barishal, Bhola, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Chandpur, Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, and their offshore islands and chars are likely to experience wind-driven surges 8-12 feet above normal astronomical tide levels.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall, ranging from 44-88 mm to more than 89 mm, along with gusty or squally winds, is expected in the divisions of Rajshahi, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet.
The BMD also warns of possible landslides in the hilly regions of Cox's Bazar, Bandarban, Rangamati, Khagrachari, and Chattogram due to the intense rainfall.
All fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain sheltered until further notice.
