Dhaka, August 3- The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has issued a local warning signal No. 3 for Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra seaports. This advisory comes amid predictions of rain accompanied by gusty winds or thunderstorms in ten regions of the country.
The weather forecast, valid from 5 am to 1 pm on Saturday, indicates that areas including Tangail, Mymensingh, Sylhet, Dhaka, Faridpur, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Comilla, Chittagong, and Cox's Bazar may experience temporary gusty winds with speeds ranging from 45 to 60 km per hour from the south and southeast. The river ports in these regions have been advised to display warning signal number 1.
According to the Meteorological Department, the monsoon axis extends over regions including Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, and central Bangladesh, reaching Assam. The extension of this axis stretches to the North Bengal Sea, with monsoon activity being strong over Bangladesh and the North Bay of Bengal.
Fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay of Bengal have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.
The forecast for the next 24 hours from 6 pm on Friday suggests that most areas in the Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong, and Sylhet divisions will experience light to moderate rain accompanied by gusty winds or thunderstorms. Some areas may see moderate to very heavy rainfall.
Daytime temperatures are expected to rise slightly, while night temperatures will likely remain unchanged. The Meteorological Department advises residents and local authorities to stay alert and take necessary precautions during this period.
