Dhaka, August 23 — The Meteorological Office has forecasted stormy rain for seven regions of Bangladesh, including Comilla and Noakhali. The forecast, issued on Friday, predicts wind speeds of 45-60 km/h from the south and southeast over Khulna, Barisal, Patuakhali, Comilla, Noakhali, Chittagong, and Cox's Bazar. These areas are expected to experience heavy rain or thundershowers, with river ports advised to display warning signal number 1.
In addition, a new 48-hour heavy rain warning has been issued. The warning indicates that areas in Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong, and Sylhet divisions may experience heavy (44 to 88 mm) to very heavy (89 mm or more) rainfall until 10 am on Saturday. The hilly regions of Chittagong Division are at risk of landslides or land subsidence due to the heavy rains.
Cox's Bazar reported the highest rainfall in the past 24 hours, with 275 mm recorded until 6 pm yesterday. Comilla received 194 mm of rain. At least seven of the 15 meteorological observatories in Chittagong Division reported heavy rainfall.
