Dhaka, Oct 08 (V7N): Former environment, forest, and climate change minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury has been released from jail after obtaining bail in six cases filed against him at Paltan and Khilgaon police stations.
The prison cell officer at the court confirmed the bail bonds, leading to Saber's release around 6:40 pm.
Shortly after the bail order, pro-BNP lawyers protested the decision, voicing their discontent in court and using offensive language against the magistrate.
Saber Hossain Chowdhury was granted bail for six cases at Khilgaon police station, including four murder and two attempted murder cases.
The bail order was issued by Dhaka's Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mehdi Hasan following a hearing on Tuesday.
Earlier, Saber fell ill during his remand on Tuesday.
On Monday, Saber Hossain appeared in Dhaka's Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court regarding the murder case of BNP activist Mokbul.
Sub-Inspector Nazmul Hasan from the Paltan model police station, who is in charge of the investigation, sought a 10-day remand, while Saber’s lawyer appealed for bail and the cancellation of remand. After hearing both sides, Dhaka’s Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubul Haque granted a five-day remand.
As Saber was being escorted to the detention center from court, he was struck by rotten eggs thrown by BNP activists.
Several individuals verbally abused Saber and his lawyer, Ehsanul Haque Shamaji, and some attempted to break through police lines to attack him.
The police swiftly intervened, repelling the attackers and safely transferring Saber to the detention center.
Saber Hossain was arrested from Gulshan in the capital on Sunday evening.
