Dhaka, Oct 27 (V7N) — The International Criminal Tribunal has ordered 14 individuals, including former Law Minister Anisul Haque and other senior politicians, to appear in court on November 18, in connection with the July-August genocide case.

A three-judge bench headed by Justice Md. Ghulam Mortuza Majumder issued the order, asking them to show cause regarding their arrest in the case. The case revolves around allegations of crimes against humanity linked to events during a political crisis earlier this year.

Among those summoned are prominent figures such as:

Anisul Haque – Former Law Minister

Dipu Moni – Former Education Minister

Farooq Khan – Senior Politician

Salman F Rahman – Former Adviser

Hasanul Haque Inu – Veteran Politician

Rashed Khan Menon – Political Leader

Kamal Ahmed Majumder – Former Minister

Junaid Ahmed Palak – Former State Minister

Taufiq Elahi – Adviser

Ziaul Haque – Former Army Officer

Jahangir Alam – Former Home Secretary

The tribunal, originally established in 2010 to prosecute crimes against humanity, has tried and executed several individuals since its formation. This new case marks a significant development, as it targets high-profile figures from Sheikh Hasina’s former administration.

The charges come in the wake of political turmoil earlier this year. Sheikh Hasina stepped down from her position as Prime Minister on August 5 following widespread student-led protests, later fleeing to India. After the interim government took power, it initiated proceedings to investigate alleged atrocities committed during the movement.

The indictment against Sheikh Hasina and several of her ministers and party leaders signals a shift in the political landscape, as the tribunal expands its focus to cover crimes linked to recent events.

This development adds further uncertainty to Bangladesh’s political climate, with significant legal consequences looming for several prominent figures.
