Jhalokathi, Dec 20, (V7N) - A court has directed the former Project Implementation Officer (PIO) of Nalchhity Upazila, Bijon Krishna Kharati (40), to appear before the court in a check fraud case. The order was issued by Senior Judicial Magistrate of the 2nd Court, Judge Mohammad Rubel Sheikh, on Thursday.

According to the plaintiff's lawyer, Advocate Imam Hossain, the case was filed in the court on Thursday, (Dec 19) morning by Habibur Rahman, a resident of Mallikpur in Nalchhity, against Bijon Krishna Kharati. The case was registered under the Negotiable Instruments (NI) Act. After hearing the case, the court accepted the complaint and issued a summons for Bijon Krishna Kharati to appear in court.

The complaint alleges that due to contractor work, the plaintiff's eldest son, Mohammad Anik, developed a close relationship with the defendant, Bijon Krishna Kharati. On 15 September 2023, Kharati borrowed Tk 12 lakh from the plaintiff's son under the condition of repaying it within three months. However, after failing to repay the amount within the agreed period, Kharati issued three personal checks amounting to Tk 12 lakh as a guarantee for the debt.

The plaintiff deposited the checks at Pubali Bank’s Nalchhity branch to withdraw the money, but they were dishonored due to insufficient funds. After the checks were rejected, the plaintiff sent a legal notice to Kharati demanding repayment of the debt, but the money has not been repaid.

The court has now directed Kharati to appear before it and respond to the charges.
