Dhaka, Feb 13 (V7N) – The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) fact-finding report on secret detention centers, including Aynapghor, will be used as irrefutable evidence in the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), according to Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday (February 13), he emphasized that the UN report aligns with the tribunal's own findings regarding enforced disappearances, secret torture cells, and extrajudicial killings during the tenure of Sheikh Hasina’s government.
"The UN report is crucial evidence in prosecuting Sheikh Hasina and her government for genocide and crimes against humanity. It will be submitted as trial material in the tribunal," he stated.
Key Points from the Chief Prosecutor's Remarks:
- The UN investigation is independent and unbiased, as its team did not communicate with the prosecution before compiling the report.
- The UN interviewed both victims and perpetrators, ensuring a comprehensive and impartial account.
- The tribunal will formally register the report as part of its case materials against accused individuals, including Sheikh Hasina and key members of her government.
This development strengthens the legal case against alleged crimes against humanity and could lead to further international scrutiny of the former Awami League government.
