Dhaka, Mar 23 (V7N) – A Dhaka court has sentenced former Health Department driver Abdul Malek to 13 years in prison in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for amassing wealth beyond known sources of income.

On Sunday, Judge Zakaria Hossain of Dhaka’s Special Judge’s Court-6 delivered the verdict under two sections of the ACC Act, convicting Malek based on strong evidence presented by the prosecution.

ACC lawyer expressed satisfaction with the ruling, stating that the allegations against Malek were proven beyond doubt. However, the defense lawyer challenged the verdict, claiming it was not legally sound and suggesting they may appeal the decision.

The ACC first filed the corruption case against Malek in 2019, and a charge sheet was submitted to the court in 2022. After a lengthy legal process, the trial formally began, leading to today’s verdict.

Meanwhile, the court has scheduled April 16 to announce a verdict in another corruption case involving Malek and his wife, raising further legal troubles for the former government employee.
