Dhaka, June 2 (V7N) — The High Court has dismissed the writ petition filed by former Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Faruk Ahmed challenging the legality of his removal from office.
A bench comprising Justices Kazi Zinat Haque and Ainun Nahar Siddiqa passed the order on Monday after hearing the petition. Faruk Ahmed had filed the petition following the National Sports Council’s (NSC) rejection of his nomination to the BCB on May 29, and the subsequent appointment of former national team captain Aminul Islam as a BCB director on May 30.
Senior lawyers Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal and Barrister Kaiser Kamal represented Faruk Ahmed, while Attorney General Md. Asaduzzaman appeared for the NSC and Barrister Nasir Uddin Asim represented the BCB.
The petition sought to question the legality of the NSC’s decisions and requested a stay on their implementation, but the court rejected these pleas.
Following the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, 2024, the NSC had nominated Faruk Ahmed and Nazmul Abedin as BCB directors, replacing former directors Jalal Yunus and Ahmed Sajjadul Alam. Faruk Ahmed was then elected BCB president by the board directors.
