Dhaka, Nov 16 (V7N) – Popular model and actress Mehzabeen Chowdhury and her brother Alisan Chowdhury surrendered to a Dhaka court on Sunday afternoon and applied for bail in a case of alleged embezzlement and intimidation.

The case, filed by plaintiff Amirul Islam, accuses the siblings of taking Tk 2.7 million under the pretext of making him partners in a family business, but failing to carry out any business activities and allegedly threatening the plaintiff when asked to return the money.

Judge Afroza Tania of Executive Magistrate Court-3 had earlier issued an arrest warrant against Mehzabeen and her brother on November 10, after they failed to appear on the scheduled date. The court has fixed December 18 for submitting the Tamil report regarding the arrest.

According to the complaint, Mehzabeen and her brother allegedly took the money through Nagad and Bkash at different times, promising business opportunities. When the plaintiff later demanded the repayment, she was reportedly abused and threatened at a meeting arranged near Hatirjheel Road on March 16, causing her to fear for her life.
