Dhaka, Nov 20 (V7N) — Four individuals have been identified for issuing death threats to judges and prosecutors of the International Crimes Tribunal in connection with the verdict against Sheikh Hasina. One of the suspects has already been arrested from Bhola, authorities confirmed.
Special Investigation Officer Tanvir Joha said on Thursday that efforts are underway to trace several Facebook pages and individuals involved in spreading photographs of tribunal judges and prosecutors on social media accompanied by threats. He added that legal action will be taken against all those responsible.
The threats began surfacing a day before the verdict in the crimes against humanity case against Sheikh Hasina. According to Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam, the judges, chief prosecutor, and several members of the prosecution panel have been receiving repeated death threats, many of which were reportedly issued from Indian mobile numbers.
Meanwhile, tensions escalated in the courtroom today when a verbal altercation broke out between the accused and the prosecution during the cross-examination of Abzallul, the prime witness in the Ashulia case. Proceedings were suspended for nearly an hour before resuming.
