Dhaka, Dec 10 (V7N)- The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has ordered former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s IT adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy to appear before the court in a case accusing him of genocide by shutting down internet services during the July movement. The court also directed that a public notice be published in newspapers regarding the order.
The directive came from the International Crimes Tribunal-1 on Wednesday (December 10) after a scheduled hearing in the case.
Earlier, in December, the tribunal had issued an arrest warrant for the fugitive Sajeeb Wazed Joy after taking cognizance of the allegations against him.
The same case includes accusations against several former government officials for actions taken during the July movement, including imposing curfews and allegedly inciting killings during meetings with businessmen at Ganabhaban.
The tribunal has fixed December 17 for the hearing on charge framing against former Law Minister Anisul Haque, former Private Industry and Investment Adviser Salman F. Rahman, and former State Minister for ICT Junaid Ahmed Palak on five charges related to curfew enforcement and alleged instigation of violence.
All three individuals—Anisul Haque, Salman F. Rahman, and Junaid Ahmed Palak—were produced before the tribunal on Wednesday morning.
Meanwhile, the International Crimes Tribunal-2 is continuing to record testimony in the July martyr Abu Sayeed murder case. On Wednesday, the tribunal heard the deposition of the 23rd witness, Hasnat Abdullah, a coordinator of the July movement.
Further proceedings in both tribunals are expected to continue throughout the month.
