Dhaka, Dec 11 (V7N) — The Appellate Division has announced that the final hearing on the appeals filed against the High Court verdict regarding the 15th Amendment to the Constitution will be held only after the upcoming 13th parliamentary election.

The decision came on Thursday (December 11) from a bench headed by Chief Justice Syed Refat Ahmed, which also fixed March 5 for the hearing.

During the proceedings, Attorney General Md. Asaduzzaman told the court that certain matters related to the 15th Amendment should be left for deliberation by the next parliament. He added that he did not want the Appellate Division to issue any ruling that might create controversy similar to earlier judgments.

On the other hand, BNP-appointed lawyers pointed out that the nation is currently preparing for elections scheduled to take place in two months. They argued that if the 15th Amendment is fully repealed before the polls, it could create significant complications for the next parliament in undertaking necessary reforms.

Later, Barrister Sara Hossain emphasized that all provisions related to the Liberation War must remain intact during any future constitutional amendments.
