Dhaka, Dec 23 (V7N)- A Dhaka court has ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Bangladesh Police to profile and preserve the DNA sample of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi, who was killed after being shot by assailants earlier this month.
The order was issued by Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Mohammad Junaid on Monday (December 22), following an application submitted by the case’s investigating officer, DB Police Inspector Faisal Ahmed.
According to the application, Sharif Osman Hadi was shot by unidentified assailants at around 2:20 pm on December 12 in front of DR Tower adjacent to Bijoynagar Box Culvert Road under Paltan Police Station. He was first taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later admitted to Evercare Hospital, Dhaka, as his condition deteriorated.
Due to his critical condition, Hadi was flown to Singapore by air ambulance on December 15 for advanced treatment and was admitted to Singapore General Hospital. He passed away at around 9:45 pm (Bangladesh time) on December 18 while undergoing treatment.
The petition further stated that Hadi’s body was brought back to Bangladesh on the evening of December 19. A post-mortem examination was conducted on the morning of December 20, during which Dr. Nashat Jabin, Assistant Professor of the Department of Forensic Medicine at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College, collected autopsy materials and DNA samples.
In the interest of a fair investigation and ensuring justice, the court directed the Chief DNA Analyst (Forensic) of the CID DNA Laboratory to conduct DNA profiling and preserve the sample for future use at the CID’s DNA Profiling Laboratory.
