Dhaka, Jan 29 (V7N) — Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has said that journalists’ presence and observation will help ensure transparency in the upcoming elections.
He made the remarks during a meeting with journalists at the Election Building in Agargaon on Thursday (January 29).
The CEC said the Election Commission (EC) is committed to making news gathering easier for journalists during the election period and assured cooperation from the commission.
During the meeting, journalist leaders demanded amendments to the existing journalist policy and called for simplifying the online application process for obtaining vote observation passes.
They also issued a warning, saying that if the issue is not resolved by Sunday, journalists would reconsider whether they will cover the upcoming elections.
The discussion reflects growing concerns among media professionals regarding access, accreditation, and freedom of election coverage, as the country prepares for the polls.
