Dhaka, Oct 13 (V7N): The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has apprehended eight individuals involved in a robbery at an apartment in Mohammadpur, where a group impersonated security personnel to steal Tk 75 lakh and 70 bhori of gold ornaments.

Lt Col Munim Ferdous, director of RAB’s legal and media wing, revealed that five of those arrested are former members of various law enforcement agencies, all dismissed from service, while the remaining three are civilians. The suspects were arrested from different locations in Dhaka.

RAB recovered a microbus used during the robbery, along with Tk 7 lakh in cash and part of the stolen gold. Operations are still underway to capture other suspects involved.

The robbery occurred around 3:45 a.m. yesterday on the second floor of a five-storey building known as "Abu Company Building" near the Tin Rasta intersection, owned by a businessman named Abu, according to locals.

Victims reported that eight to 10 individuals, dressed in uniforms resembling those of the army and RAB, arrived at their home, claiming to be conducting a raid to seize weapons. They searched cupboards, vandalized furniture, and looted the money and ornaments.

Mohammadpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Iftekhar Hasan confirmed that a robbery case has been filed regarding the incident.
