Kurigram, Feb 21 (V7N) – Bablu Mia, arrested in connection with the robbery on the Brahmaputra River in the Chilamari-Raomari-Rajibpur waterway, confessed to his involvement after being remanded for two days. On Wednesday, when he was presented in the Kurigram court, Bablu Mia gave a confessional statement under Section 164 before the judge. The court then sent him to jail. The officer-in-charge (OC) of the Chilamari River Police Post, Imtiaz Kabir, confirmed this information.
 
Earlier, on February 9, a robbery took place on the Brahmaputra River near Karai Barishal ferry ghat in the Chilamari Union of Chilamari Upazila. Following this, a passenger filed a case at the Chilamari Model Police Station, naming unidentified suspects. On February 17, a joint team of RAB and police arrested Bablu Mia from the Char area of Kamarkjani Union in Gaibandha Sadar. He was then handed over to the court and remanded for two days of interrogation by the Chilamari River Police.
 
Bablu Mia is a resident of Fazlul Haque's family in the Kanchibari Dhubni area of Sundarganj Upazila, Gaibandha. During preliminary questioning, he admitted his involvement in the Brahmaputra waterway robberies. Police have identified Bablu Mia as an active member of a gang involved in robberies on the Brahmaputra River as well as the Phulchhari-Bahadurabad waterway. He has several ongoing cases related to robbery and the arms act.
 
According to the information obtained during the interrogation, Officer Imtiaz Kabir stated, "Bablu has confessed to his involvement in the robbery. Based on his confession, we recovered the boat used in the robbery from the Khamar Kamarkjani area of Gaibandha."
 
The OC added, "Bablu's gang consists of 15 professional robbers. All of them are residents of Gaibandha Sadar, Sundarganj, and Sadullapur areas. Nine of them are already facing multiple cases under the robbery and arms act. These robbers have been active not only on the Chilamari-Raomari-Rajibpur waterway but also on the Phulchhari-Kamarjani waterway in Gaibandha. We are continuing our efforts to arrest Bablu's accomplices and take necessary actions."
