Rangamati, Mar 3, (V7N) – A violent clash occurred in Rangamati city on Sunday night, resulting in two individuals being seriously injured. The incident took place around 10 p.m. in the Gymnasium area of the city, where two known drug dealers, Khokon and Suman Chakma, a driver from Rangamati College, got into a physical fight. Both men sustained severe injuries from sharp weapons and were later rushed to Rangamati General Hospital by locals. Due to the severity of his injuries, Suman Chakma was referred to Chottagram for further treatment.
Following the incident, Additional Police Superintendent Maruf Ahmed and Officer-in-Charge Sahed Ali of Kotwali Police Station, along with other senior officials, arrived at the hospital. They ensured that Suman Chakma was transferred to Chottagram Medical College Hospital for advanced care and arrested Khokon, who was involved in the clash.
Maruf Ahmed confirmed that necessary arrangements for the injured person's treatment had been made through Chottagram district police. Khokon, a listed drug dealer, was taken into custody by the police.
After the clash, some individuals spread rumors on social media, claiming that the incident was part of a hill-tribal conflict and that Suman Chakma had been murdered in front of the police. False claims circulated, alleging that Khokon, a leader of the youth wing, was involved, accompanied by graphic images of the injured. The authorities have emphasized that the incident was a personal conflict between two individuals and not related to any ethnic or communal issues.
Kotwali Police Station's Officer-in-Charge, (OC) Sahed Ali, reassured student leaders present at the hospital, stating, "This was a matter between two people. We have already arrested the accused, Khokon, who is a known drug dealer. The police have taken all necessary legal actions, and senior officials are closely monitoring the situation. Rest assured, the perpetrators will face justice."
Following the incident, security in and around the hospital and nearby areas has been increased, with additional patrols to maintain order. The police are actively working to prevent any further unrest or rumors from spreading.
